I recently found out my child is deaf

If your child has been identified as deaf, you should be referred to your Visiting Teacher.  If you have not yet had contact , you can find out who your local Visiting Teacher is here.

In the meantime, it might be useful to get in touch with other parents.  Sharing the Journey is a parent-led support organisation.  You can find out more about them here.

The National Council for Special Education (NCSE) provides a leaflet for parents of children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing which can be found here. Organisations like Deafhear.ie and the Irish Deaf Society also have information available for parents.

There are also numerous health and education services which parents can avail of and which are briefly outlined on our website. In addition, the Deaf Education Centre runs a Shared Reading Programme for children aged 0-4, you can learn more about this programme here.

As always, feel free to contact us at the Deaf Education Centre if you have any concerns.  Email us at info@deafeducation.ie
